THE FUTURE OF WORK /JOBS (part 2)concluding part

The most striking revelation along these succession lines of jobs was that there are still a lot of people spread all around the world still living their lives like they were still in the old era of hunting and gathering, Agrarian era and Industrial age. Although they exist in the present but carries the mind of the past.

If we could imagine how someone with a skill of hunting and gathering, subsistence farming with hoes and cutlass or factory labour skills could be able to be effective and efficient in the Era of information. The tools will never be relevant to the present predicament.

Now we have been ushered into another era which is widely known as Fourth Industrial Revolution(4IR).

This is an era whereby robots and machines are taking over the jobs of people. It is a period where some profession has already been whipsaw and some are really going to be in extinction in the next five(5) years. The era of the Internet of Things and machine learning(IoT).This period has witnessed how the nature of work and job have been impacted. You can actually work remotely now without being in an office environment. Some of the jobs that cannot be done remotely have or contributed directly to the increase in revenue of most organisation have been shed. A lot of jobs are no longer there.

This is a time that already over 50 millions of Africans have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and the disruptions that come with it.

In the world of my friend NICKY VERD, she opines;

"We are hearing a lot about doom-and-gloom surrounding the future of jobs, but who’s at risk? Well, the honest truth is that everyone is at risk, not just warehouse workers or manual labourers...

The million-dollar question is what are you creating that you cannot get fired from?".

My answer is your talent. That is just the factual answer. You cannot get fired from your talents and skills. However talents without hard work amount to nothing.

My whole point for my readers is just to become proactive by deliberately becoming a person that craves for knowledge and upskill. We must consciously unlearn and relearn to release our talents that are dominant.

There is no other way than to give our talents the chance to be trained by putting it to work. Get a job where you will be able to knowledge up. The opportunity when we are employees are two types, first, we will get trained, expose and develop while doing that job and secondly we will get paid in form of salary, wages or commissions while learning on the job.

The world we live in now is charging at a faster speed and the rule of work or job have changed.

This is the time for us to make self-assessment about our talents, skills and knowledge. The time to look for a job not because of the immediate money it will bring but also for the development of skills and talents.

As we work so also let us learn, knowledge up and acquire the skills requires for our future survival.

We must not only be up to date but up till tomorrow.!
